Devil Costume Check List:
  • Red Felt
  • Red Spray Paint
  • Red Sweat Pants or Leggings
  • Red Long Sleeve Tee or Turtle neck
  • 11 inch length of Rope
  • Red Headband
  • Hot Glue Gun and Glue
  • Needle and Red Thread
  • Cardboard
  • Red Poster Board
  • Wrapping Paper Tube or an old Yard Stick
  • Safety Pins
Devil Costume Directions:
  1. The major part of the Devil Costume is a pair of red pants and a matching red turtle neck. You can use sweatpants and a sweatshirt as an alternative. If you are making this costume for a girl, you can use a pair of red leggings for the bottom.
  2. For the devil tail, cut a 2 1/2 to 3 inch strip of red felt approximately 12 inches in length using fabric scissors. The strip should be wide enough to wrap around the rope you have chosen. Cut a small triangle out of the felt that is 2 inches on all three sides. Assemble the tail, use a hot glue gun to glue the rope to one edge of the red felt leaving approximately ½ inch of felt on each end. After the glue is dry, role the rope into the felt until it surrounds the rope and then glue the remaining edge of the felt to complete the round tail. Then glue the triangle to one end of the tail by adding a small amount of glue to the bottom of the triangle and press it on the tail. Use safety pins to attach the tail to the center of the waist on the red pants.
  3. A simple way to make the devils trident (pitchfork) is to draw it on a piece of red poster board that is folded in half. Then, cut out the outline of the trident which will give you two exact red tridents. Now, use one of them to trace a third trident on a piece of cardboard. Cut out the card board trident. Use your hot glue gun to adhere a red trident to each side of the cardboard trident. Remove the cardboard tube from a role of Christmas or birthday wrapping paper. Use some red spray paint to paint it red. Once the spray paint is dry, use your hot glue gun to attach the bottom of the trident to one end of the cardboard tube and allow it to dry.
  4. To create the devils horns, draw a horn shape that is about 4 inches high on a folded piece of red poster board making sure the folded end of the poster board is at the bottom of the horn and cut it out. Now repeat the process to create the other horn. Attach the horns to a red headband by wrapping the folded end of the poster board around the red headband and use your hot glue gun to adhere it to the headband. Now repeat the process to adhere the other horn. Allow the glue to dry.
  5. To finish off the ensemble, have your child wear a pair of wear black or red shoes. Put the horns on and carry the trident to finish the look.
